I know I it sounds counter-intuitive to look for patterns in what’s different and yet in being a professional listener I have noticed that there seems to be more common in patterns that than differences.ġ. ![]() Listening above patterns – meta listening and listening for what’s common and especially for what is distinct and different across the lists.Īlthough it’s useful to know what’s common across the lists, what I am also looking for is what is common in the different list. In looking through multiple lists, it’s an exercise in deep listening for me. When it comes to researching books to read for 2017, I look back at 2016 across a few best seller lists including In the process of writing all over the book - the book becomes mine. I like printed books because they are portable, light weight and I can write all over them – with pencil, with pen and sticky notes. The electronic format is fabulous – it’s just not for me.
